What formats/document types do you edit in?

I edit in Microsoft Word (Track Changes).

NOTE: I only offer editing in PDFs for light edits. Please contact me with a sample of your work before booking this type of service.

Do you just run my work through AI editing software or actually manually provide feedback?

I treat each and every one of my clients' compositions with careful consideration, courtesy of my own brain. While editing AI like spellcheck can be a great place to start, it doesn't compare to the full feedback of a trained editor. Rest assured I put the full faculties of my editor brain to work.

Do your services include formatting?

No, my services don't include formatting, but I do generally ensure consistency of light formatting items like headings and font size.

Do your services include discussing my work via phone or videochat?

During a consultation call we can chat for 15 minutes about your specific needs and the goal of the service I'll be providing. Beyond that, only my developmental editing service can include a 45-minute call at the conclusion of the edit for an extra $150 fee.

Do you edit web content?

Absolutely! Rates are based on word count and condition of the content.

Do you edit fiction or nonfiction?

Both! My specialties are fantasy and science fiction but I have a background in editing memoirs and experience with a broad range of genres, from self-help to romance. I'm a firm believer in the importance of matching projects with the right editor, so I'll let you know if I think we're not a good fit and recommend someone I think will be able to help.

Will you edit promotional materials like blurbs, press releases or guest blog posts?

Sure! I have plenty of experience helping authors not only polish their book's text but their promo material as well. Many authors find it convenient to stick with an editor they've come to know and trust.

Are you open to sample edits?

Most definitely. I conduct short sample edits on proofreads for a small fee.

When will you charge me for your services?

I ask for 50% up front and 50% at the time of delivery.

Do you guarantee confidentiality and that I will retain the rights to the work handled while using your services?

Certainly. You will see a clause in our contract guaranteeing you confidentiality and rights to your work.

What's your editorial style?

Whether I am editing your writing or writing a piece of copy for you, my main goal is to produce work that preserves your voice and helps you reach your goals.

I use my editorial prowess to strengthen your writing and do my best to provide clarifying examples to editorial suggestions so you know exactly how to proceed.

What do I do if I'm not quite ready to hire you but I want to keep in touch?

So how does the editing process work?

First, we'll set up a consultation so I can get to know your unique needs.
Then, I'll send you a proposal that is based on what we discussed in our consultation. It'll list the service inclusions and timeline.
If you're happy with the proposal, I'll send you a contract for both of us to sign assuring you of the rights to your work.
Then I get right to work! I guarantee on-time delivery.
